Many people want to know how we keep an active, athletic teenaged boy happy following a medical ketogenic diet. The answer is, very carefully! One of the biggest challenges we have encountered has been social, more than finding appealing ketogenic foods which are abundant. The foods can be delicious and extremely satisfying. However, especially in the teen years, but even as we age, food is social. Our biggest challenge has been dealing with that relationship between food and people, and encouraging social engagement that is not food dependent.
As for the foods, the specific prescription should be established between physician and dietitian. Ingredients can and should be modified to address the specific dietary prescription.
